Reports To: Operating Partner / Bakery General Manager

Supervises: Up to 15 Bakery Team Members

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week.

Schedule: Work schedules may vary from week to week and are not fixed. This position requires availability to work on any day of the week. This condition is essential and non-negotiable.

Training Period: 90 days

Post-Training Pay: $19 per hour (upon successful completion of training and demonstration of proficiency in all areas)

Position Summary

As a Assistant Manager at Nothing Bundt Cakes, you will play a vital role in supporting the bakery's operations while learning the ins and outs of retail management. This position is essential for ensuring that our guests receive exceptional service and that our bakery runs smoothly.

The Manager in Training is a full-time developmental role designed to prepare future bakery leaders. Over a 90-day period, the trainee is expected to become proficient in all key operational areas of the bakery, including:

  • Joy Creator (Guest Services)
  • Froster
  • Baker
  • Utility/Operations
  • Crafter (Merchandising & Presentation)
  • Cash Management
Upon successful completion of this training period and demonstration of proficiency, the trainee will transition to the Assistant Manager role with increased pay and leadership responsibilities.

Training & Development (90 Training Period)

  • Gain direct experience in every bakery position through structured training and daily practice.
  • Learn and consistently uphold Nothing Bundt Cakes brand standards for product quality, guest experience, and cleanliness.
  • Build knowledge of team operations, scheduling, inventory management, and basic financial procedures.
  • Receive continuous feedback from leadership with formal performance reviews to track progress.
  • Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and a positive team-oriented attitude.
Key Responsibilities (Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPost-Training)

  • Leads with an unwavering guest focus and exhibit strong people skills, with the ability to engage, empower and motivate a team.
  • Support the Bakery Manager in daily operations and team supervision.
  • Highly organized and resourceful, able to balance multiple priorities and demonstrate strong follow-up skills.
  • Deliver joyful guest experiences and lead by example in every aspect of service and product presentation.
  • Leads proactive community outreach to increase brand visibility in the market.
  • Coordinates special events with local businesses, schools, and other community organizers.
  • Manage offsite events.
  • Assist with training, coaching, and development of bakery staff.
  • Excels at delegating duties, communicating clear expectations both oral and written form, directing others’ work and managing performance.
  • Assist with any bakery role as needed to meet business demands.
  • Help with ordering, inventory, bakery cleanliness, and merchandising.
  • Participate in store opening/closing duties including cash handling and bank deposits.
  • Resolves guest concerns with professionalism and grace, promoting a positive resolution and experience.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, including documentation.
  • Coordinate special orders and large deliveries.
  • Maintain awareness of bakery systems (POS, scheduling, reporting) and support with troubleshooting and training.
  • Understands basic math and Profit & Loss principles, including the specific levers that drive sales and profitability.
  • Ensure the bakery’s visual presentation is clean, on-brand, and seasonally updated.
Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in hospitality, food service, or retail a plus.
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated experience as a supervisor with experience managing teams, business operations and guest experience.
  • Experience in hiring and developing teams, creating a superior service environment, and achieving financial objectives.
  • Experience in creating productivity goals, inventory par levels and team schedules, and managing costs.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with comfort in learning new technologies.
  • Foodservice safety training certificate is a plus.
  • Effective communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on changing business demands, as needed.
  • An enthusiastic learner with a desire to grow into a leadership role.

At the conclusion of the 90-training period, performance will be evaluated based on:

  • Proficiency across all bakery operational areas
  • Demonstrated understanding of bakery standards and leadership behaviors.
  • Readiness to assume the Assistant Manager role.
